The Red Bulls made news once again at the sportsbook when they signed Mexico’s national team captain Rafael Marquez. 
When they signed France star Thierry Henry, New York got attention earlier this season. New York might perhaps be a winning team against sportsbook soccer odds and should be a fun team to watch.
The Red Bulls is a founding member of Major League Soccer, though it has been through several name alterations since the league’s beginnings in 1996. After the team was sold to Red Bull GmbH, they’ve got adopted the name “Red Bulls”. This season brings them a new group of competitors, a new stadium, and a new head coach. They are hoping to significantly improve on their unsatisfactory 2009 season. Fresh head coach Hans Backe purged the previous coach’s players that he held responsible for the 2009 season. The addition of Marquez ought to help New York on and off the field when you bet on games. He made an appearance for Mexico in 94 games and has been their captain since 2002. He performed with Barcelona in recent seasons and was on their tournament squads in 2005, 2006, 2009 and in 2010.
New York has a total of five victories and only 21 points this season. Since New York isn’t part of the playoff competition, the addition of Marquez is more focused on next season and getting enthusiasts than it is for this year. Marquez will most likely play midfield for the Red Bulls. Even at his age he is most likely better than what New York had in the midfield, although he is not a big scoring threat. New York has not played well for the most part this season but at least with the additions of Henry and Marquez they should be worth viewing. They could even acquire a couple more victories along the way.
There is no question that the MLS is gaining some attention at the sportsbook with the addition of competitors like Henry and Marquez. Henry and Marquez actually didn’t have a place in leading European leagues, though, and that should not be overlooked. Barcelona didn’t use Henry much last season and they released Marquez just a few days ago. The MLS just does not have as much talent as leagues such as the Premier or La Liga and participants who have major reputations but diminishing skills can still be efficient in what is a lower level of soccer in the MLS.
