Sportsbook gamblers remember that the Houston Rockets were just over .500 last season in NBA betting and that was without Yao Ming playing even just one game.

The Rockets might be greatly better in 2010-2011 against the odds at the Internet sports books if Yao is healthy and productive. Yao has seldom been healthy, though, and that’s the issue for Houston.

Sportsbook odds list Houston as 35-1 to win next season’s NBA championship. The Houston Rockets probability of competing for an NBA championship in fact rest on the left foot of Yao Ming. He can make a big difference if he’s healthy. Rarely has Yao been healthy though. Yao has even said that he might be playing his last season of basketball if his foot injury isn’t fully healed. The Houston Rockets don’t seem too worried as general manager Daryl Morey stated that Yao is on pace to be in training camp and play in preseason competitions in sports betting.

The Rockets are paying Yao a huge amount of money so they need to get something from him. Yao is in the final year of his deal and will make $17.6 million dollars this season. Yao can be a force for the Rockets when he’s on the court. He hasn’t been on the court enough for Houston though. He has missed time because of injury in the last 5 seasons. Yao has said that he may not be the same player that he was prior to his injury. He’s a 7-time All-Star and has averaged 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds in his career.

He missed only 2 competitions from 246 for the 1st 3 years that he played with the NBA. He was placed on the inactive list for a prolonged period of time in the course of his 4th season after developing an infection of the bone marrow in his left big toe. He had an operation and missed 21 competitions. The same season, he smashed a bone in his left foot, an injury that required half a dozen months of rest. Yao smashed his right knee and missed another 34 competitions the following season. A year later, he missed the rest of that season after he received another stress fracture in his left foot. A sprained ankle and yet another hairline fracture in his left foot removed him the playoffs for the 2008 season, and he missed the 2009 season to deal with the recurrent injuries.

There is lots of trepidation in Houston despite the fact that Houston owner Leslie Alexander was pleased about Yao’s workouts. Yao always seems to get injured. And despite the fact that the workouts have gone well, individuals wonder when the next injury will occur that might end Yao’s career.

The Rockets were just 37-45 vs the spread last season. Aaron Brooks, who had 19.6 points per game, headed the Houston Rockets in scoring last season. He also headed the team in assists with 5.3 per game. Trevor Ariza headed the team in blocks and steals while Luis Scola headed the team in rebounding and in field goal ratio. Houston was 8th in the league this past season in scoring, however their defense was bad. Getting Yao back in the middle should improve a defense that was 22nd in the league in points per game.
