Yao smashed his right knee and missed another 34 competitions the following season. A year later, he missed the rest of that season after he received another stress fracture in his left foot. A sprained ankle and yet another hairline fracture in his left foot removed him the playoffs for the 2008 season, and he missed the 2009 season to deal with the recurrent injuries.
