The Cleveland Browns are expected to be better this year, despite the fact that they’re 80-1 long shots in 2010 NFL preseason wagering to win the Super Bowl.

They are 18.5 to 1 to earn the AFC North in NFL preseason lines. On August 14th, Cleveland begins their preseason schedule at Green Bay.

2010 NFL preseason wagering on the Browns proceeds in Week 2 when they host the St Louis Rams. The Browns are in Detroit in Week 3 after which they host the Chicago Bears in their preseason finale. As they attempt to change the culture of the squad, the preseason will be a pretty essential time for the Browns. President Mike Holmgren has made numerous modifications that ought to make the Browns a better squad in 2010.

Cleveland played pretty poorly last year until the last few weeks. In the final month the Browns won matches vs Oakland, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and Kansas City. That streak saved the job of head coach Eric Mangini. Now he’ll need to add to that streak.

Mangini, who was earlier the head coach of the New York Jets, confronted criticism in his first year of coaching the Browns. Sports Illustrated columnist Joe Posnanski referred to Mangini’s hiring as the worst coaching hire of the past 25 years. As head coach of the Browns, to date he has a 5-11 record in sports betting. New Browns president Mike Holmgren stated in January that he’d hold Mangini on for the 2010 year.

Cleveland is turning over the starting position to quarterback Jake Delhomme and he appears to be a lot better than Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. The Browns are in trouble if Delhomme cannot get the job done since they’ve got only Seneca Wallace and rookie Colt McCoy. The Browns will look to run the ball with Jerome Harrison and take the stress off of Delhomme. Cleveland needs to run the ball well considering they’ve got no receivers. Mohamed Massaquoi headed the squad in catches last year while Josh Cribbs is better as a running back. The Browns do have a great offensive line, but until they show they can throw the ball, opposing defenses are going to stack up against the run.

The Browns defense is genuinely not pretty great. They have a substandard defensive line, no name linebackers and an overhyped secondary. The squad took Joe Harden in the first round and they did acquire cornerback Sheldon Brown from Philadelphia, so perhaps the Browns can be improved in the secondary. The Browns do have great special teams headed by Cribbs and kicker Phil Dawson.

NFL preseason lines when you bet on football will likely list the Browns as long shots in at least 2 and perhaps 3 of their preseason games and until Cleveland proves they can win consistently they will continue to receive points.
