The Dallas Cowboys are likely to be the most overhyped team in NFL betting.

They open up by playing the Hall of Fame Game vs the Cincinnati Bengals on August 8th. The Cowboys will likely be preferred in NFL preseason probabilities in this match that can be watched on NBC.

The Cowboys’ popular running back Emmitt Smith will be enshrined into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in August. Their general manager, Jerry Jones, has been vying for the Cowboys to be included in the Hall of Fame game for the first time since 1999. The weekend when one of their own will be inducted in the Hall of Fame seems like the perfect chance. It’s especially moving because Emmitt Smith participated in their last Hall of Fame game back in 1999. Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher with 18,355 yards, played for the Cowboys from 1990-2002 and scored a record 164 rushing touchdowns, won four NFL rushing titles and gained 1,000 yards in a record 11 consecutive seasons.

This is the first Hall of Fame competition for the Cincinnati Bengals since 1988. The 2010 Hall of Fame Class includes Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle, and Jerry Rice in addition to Emmitt Smith.

NFL preseason gambling will highlight the Cowboys five times in 2010. Since they play the Hall of Fame match, the Cowboys get an extra preseason match. 4 days after the Hall of Fame Game, they will host the Oakland Raiders. They journey to San Diego and Houston the next two weeks whereas their final preseason competition will be at home against Miami.

As they’re listed at 10-1 in NFL preseason probabilities, the Cowboys are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl Dallas is a strong favorite at -125 to win the NFC East. The Cowboys are headed on offense by Tony Romo who threw for 4,483 yards last year with 26 TDs and only 9 interceptions. He has some talented receiving choices including tight end Jason Witten. Miles Austin had a breakout season a year ago and he looks to get some aid this season as defense will have to compete with newcomer Dez Bryant. The running game is strong with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

The Cowboys had a very strong defense in 2009 that was quite often overlooked. A defense that was second in the league in points granted was the reason the Cowboys won 11 competitions last season. All-Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware is a catalyst from the outside whereas Terence Newman leads a strong secondary.

The difficulty for the Cowboys this season may be high expectations. Owner Jerry Jones tells his team quite frequently that this year’s Super Bowl is in Dallas and he expects his team to be there. The Cowboys aren’t lacking some concerns though. Wade Phillips, who has never picked up anything, is their current head coach, and Dallas has a difficult National Football League schedule that includes reigning Super Bowl champ New Orleans and runner-up Indianapolis. Wagering the Cowboys in the preseason or in the normal season also means setting or obtaining fewer points than is called for since Dallas is the most public team in the NFL.
